From November 21 to 28, representatives from the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) and the African Disaster Mitigation Research Center (ADMiR) Namely Prof. Gad El-Qady, Dr. Hanan Genidy, Eng. Eman Habak, and Eng. Kaouter Chougrani participated in the Sakura Science Program, a short-term initiative funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and organized by Kagawa University. The program focused on disaster risk reduction (DRR) in collaboration with Kagawa University, Japan.
This program, conducted by the Institute of Education, Research, and Regional Cooperation for Crisis Management Shikoku at Kagawa University, addressed critical topics in crisis management and risk reduction. It provided participants from various countries with insights into Japan's extensive experience in managing natural disasters. As an island nation frequently impacted by earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, and landslides, Japan serves as a global leader in disaster preparedness.
During the program, the ADMiR and NRIAG team had the opportunity to visit the Kagawa Prefecture office, where they learned about disaster management practices within local Japanese government. The visit also included an exploration of Japan’s current disaster education initiatives, enriching the participants' understanding of effective strategies in disaster resilience and risk reduction.
