ABOUT AfSC 2025

The African Seismological Commission (AfSC) is a scientific organization launched in 2014 by the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior (IASPEI) as a regional commission of IASPEI in the African region. The AfSC's mission is to promote the science of Seismology within the scientific community of the African countries, by promoting research studies, to extend and enhance scientific co-operation and to train young scientists. It was launched on 22 January 2014 during an Africa-Array workshop held at WITS university in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The AfSC General Assembly will be held in Windhoek, Namibia hosted by the Geological Survey of Namibia (GSN). The Geological Survey of Namibia plays an important role in acquiring geoscientific data and other geoscientific research including earthquake monitoring for seismic hazard assessment.
